How Tradebox Started

The inspiration for Tradebox came from working in the contracting industry.  From experience many advertising options didn’t get the results in terms of generating a good quantity of quality leads and time was often wasted following up on queries that didn’t match the type of work the contracting business was in.

From a homeowners perspective, it is always difficult to find trades people that are professional, reliable, experienced and keen to do the type of work required.

Friends and family have always commented on how hard it can be if you don’t know the right questions to ask, or the requirements to specify, to ensure that you and the trade professional fully understand each other.

So it seemed there was a prime opportunity to play ‘matchmaker’ with a service that brings together homeowners and Trade Professionals. The key has been keeping it simple to use yet detailed enough, so it works for everyone. 

Our Progress

 Tradebox went live in October 2007 after two years of planning before that. The learning curve has been steep and we've come to have some great trustworthy Trade Pros that have been servicing users of our service. We are currently in the midst of doing an upgrade of our system to make it even easier for Trade Pros and Users alike! Watch this space as this upgrade will be released at the end of January 2010.

Our Vision

www.tradebox.co.nz will be the top website where all New Zealanders- home owners, property managers and contractors can turn to when they need expert yet professional trades people. It will also be the first choice for Trade Professionals to spend their advertising dollars.

Our Goal

Our goal is two fold. The first is to provide a cost effective method for Trade Professionals to obtain qualified leads that they would not otherwise have access to.  Secondly, tradebox.co.nz will be a site which property managers and homeowners alike can trust to provide referrals to Trade Professionals that match their requirements.

Who Are We 

We are a small yet progressive team that are passionate about what we do. Both of us-Anthony and Anne are brother and sister, originally from Malaysia but have made New Zealand our home for nearly 20 years now. We have worked together on the Tradebox concept and had been planning for almost 2 years before launching this site in October 2007.

Anthony Ng has over 18 years experience in the building, construction and trade services.  He has a Bachelor of Building degree in Construction and Project Management from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.  He worked for the New South Wales Department of Housing before moving on to manage multi-million dollar construction projects which included the development of a 40 storey office block on a Golf resort.  He has project managed, developed, designed, built and owned commercial properties as well as residential homes in New Zealand for almost fifteen years.

Anne Casey has a Bachelor of Commerce & Post Graduate Diploma Marketing from the University of Auckland.  She has over 18 years marketing experience having worked for Farmers Trading Company, in positions in Buying and Marketing including the role as Marketing Manager for the Home Division.  Anne has been involved in the setting up of online selling, and grown market share of key home categories and managed successful new product launches.  Since 2005, Anne has been working for a New Zealand company where she has redeveloped the website, repositioned the brand and is responsible for international marketing of the company.
